Powell Valley Healthcare Volunteer Services Scholarship

Powell Valley Healthcare Volunteer Services Scholarship

Volunteer work for Powell Valley Healthcare began in 1957, when a group of women trained by the Red Cross and known as the “Gray Ladies” began reading aloud to patients, visiting with them, and writing letters for them. Since those early years, Powell Valley Healthcare Volunteer Services has grown to include 110 men and women volunteers in the hospital, care center, and at The Heartland Assisted Living, providing great service and care to patients and guests.
For many years, the PVHC Volunteers have provided scholarships for students in a medical-related field. In 2008, the volunteers decided to endow a scholarship at NWC to support area students wishing to pursue their studies at Northwest College. Preference is given to non-traditional students (students 23 years of age or older), to enable these students to more easily complete their education. The PVHC Volunteers believe education assures better job opportunities, and it is their hope that this scholarship will allow recipients to better provide for their families.
