Michelle Murphy Schwab Nursing Scholarship

Created in 2005, this scholarship was established to honor the life, compassion, and legacy of Michelle Marie Schwab – a devoted nurse, community member, and advocate for healthcare.

Born and raised in Powell, Wyoming, Michelle was the daughter of James and Carlene Murphy and a proud graduate of Powell High School. She began her higher education journey at Northwest College, where she completed two years of study before transferring to Carroll College in Montan graduating in 1979. Michelle returned to Powell following her education and spent more than 20 years working as a registered nurse at Powell Hospital.

Michelle passed away peacefully in 2004 at the age of 48. To honor her life and dedication to nursing, her family established this endowed scholarship at NWC. This scholarship provides financial support to nursing students from the Big Horn Basin who demonstrate financial need and have been formally accepted into the Northwest College Nursing program.
