Mario Aguilar Memorial Photography Scholarship

Mario Aguilar found is confidence and discovered his passion behind a camera at Northwest College. That’s why after his death at age 44 from ALS, his wife, Darla, established a scholarship endowment to educate sophomore photography students. Darla shared, “As his wife, I wanted to honor his life and decided that creating a scholarship in his name was the best way to do that. He would have been happy to know that this scholarship is encouraging others to study photography.” Mario was known for his photography and caring personality amongst his peers in Arizona. He was recognized in 2007 by the Arizona Newspapers Association, which presented him with its Photographer of the Year award just four short years before he passed. Honoring his life’s work, preference is given to students interested in photojournalism.
