Leon Sanders Memorial Welding Scholarship Endowment

Leon Sanders believed in the value of hard work, craftsmanship, and using one’s talents to serve others. A lifelong problem solver, Leon built a reputation as a skilled tradesman, successful business owner, and devoted family man.
Born in Basin, Wyoming and raised in Otto, Leon graduated from Greybull High School before earning a football scholarship to Montana State University. Following his marriage to his wife, Eva, the couple spent 57 years building not only three family homes together but also successful business that served the Big Horn Basin. After a 22-year career with Marathon Pipeline that took him across the country, Leon and his family founded Sanders Plumbing and Heating in Powell.
Established in Leon’s memory, this scholarship honors those same values by supporting Northwest College students pursuing a degree in Welding. The scholarship assists full-time students with demonstrated financial need who maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA. This endowment is a truly inspiring investment to the next generation of welders.
