John T. Hinckley Memorial Scholarship
John Hinkley dedicated his entire professional career to quality instruction at Northwest College where he was one of only sixteen faculty members and responsible for teaching all the “Social Sciences” at the beginning of his career. When Hinkley died in 1997, his family started this memorial scholarship to honor his commitment to the thousands of college students he touched over the years. John never wavered in his conviction that the children of the Big Horn Basin deserve as fine an education as can be provided and that education is the backbone of a sustaining community. The college library was a special passion for Hinkley who at one time supervised its move across campus using a commandeered laundry cart. Today the library bears his name. It is the family’s hope that the recipients of this scholarship will honor John Hinkley’s memory by dedicating themselves to the educated service of their communities.
