John and Leona Krause Agriculture Scholarship Endowment

When John Krause passed away in 1993, his wife Leona started a small scholarship to honor his love of Northwest College and of agriculture. John has served as an early member of the college’s Board of Trustees. She faithfully donated each year to fund the award until her death in 2004.
The Krause’ four children – three sons and one daughter – decided to endow the John and Leona Krause Agriculture Scholarship to honor both parents using Leona’s memorial funds and some money from her estate. In keeping with Leona’s wishes, the scholarship award is available to Park County residents studying agriculture at NWC.
John and Leona were high school sweethearts, both born and raised in Powell. They worked hard over the years as sugar beet farmers but led a happy, full life. They were loved by many friends and they were involved in community activities and organizations. John and Leona both attended college, and they strongly encouraged their children to obtain college educations, supporting whatever choices they made regarding school and later in life.
“We had all been raised and educated in Powell, and after high school we each moved to other locations. . .we thought we should do something that would benefit the people of Powell and Park County in recognition of the exceptional start in life the community had given each of us,” says son Jerry from his home in Littleton, CO.
