Joan M. Daley Singer Scholarship

Joan M. Daley Singer Scholarship

Joan Daley Singer was an inspiration to all who knew her. She was a vibrant person with an out-going personality and a natural leader. Before graduating in the Powell High School class of 1945, she was active on the newspaper staff, the annual staff, in music, in theater, and was voted girl most likely to succeed. After attending the University of Nebraska for one year, she returned to Powell to attend the newly opened Northwest Center of the University of Wyoming (as NWC was known then) for one year. She struggled to get the necessary finances for college and never fulfilled her dream of a college degree. In 1947 she married Don Singer and had 4 children prior to her untimely death in 1954 at the age of 27.

NWC is now a family legacy. All four of her children attended NWC, one taught at NWC, and two have served on NWC Boards. To honor Joan and her desire to attend more college but lacked the funding, her family wishes to make education more attainable to other students in her position.
