Jim Howell Memorial Veteran's Scholarship
Jim Howell served in the US Army during the Korean War, where his unit spent eleven months on the front lines. He was an “Average Joe” and a good soldier who felt the need to serve the country that made him so very proud to be able to “give some payback”. Jim believed in the core values of Wyoming – “Be responsible for what you say and do!” He also believed in the “Golden Rule” – Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. The camaraderie of his time in the service, and in the American Legion, was important to Jim because he honored time spent together with those who wore the uniform. The membership of the American Legion believes in keeping money local and investing in our successful local college, and that young folks need to experience new and different ideas from outside our local environment. The best way to accomplish both is to assist young folks in obtaining higher education.
