Hubert and Elda Shoemaker Memorial Scholarship
Hubert and Elda Shoemaker started farming in Garland shortly after they were married in 1932. They were successful farmers who were active in the community for many years. They often liked to tell the story of them saving up enough egg money to buy a tube for their radio during the depression.
Hubert and Elda worked all their lives. Their only son died when he was in his early 20’s, so they chose to support other students as a legacy to him. The couple recognized the many areas of study available in the ag field and hoped their scholarship money would help students follow their desired paths in this far-reaching field.
