Guy Shipley Engineering Scholarship

Guy Shipley Engineering Scholarship

Growing up in the Big Horn Basin, it is not customary for young people to do elaborate college tours because students know that attending college in Wyoming is the best bang for their buck. For numerous Shipley family members Northwest College was also a bonus because it was close to home. The quality of education they received at NWC rivaled the education other students were receiving in places with much larger class sizes, less personal interaction with faculty and staff, and less support to make the transition from a rural high school to a college setting.
Andrea Shipley proudly followed in her father’s footsteps to NWC – although their majors were on the opposite sides of the brain – his in Engineering and hers in English. “Along with my father’s incredible stories from his time at NWC, at high school graduation I received three scholarships to Northwest that helped me cement my plans to attend,” she said. “Because of the scholarships I received, I do not have student loans from that time of my education. My father was so proud to send me to the same school that launched his adult life.”
When Andrea returned to Wyoming in 2012 to assist in managing Guy’s Multiple Sclerosis, it only seemed fitting to create a scholarship in his name. The Guy Shipley Engineering Scholarship was established to honor her father’s service to the Big Horn Basin as an Air Force Veteran, Boy Scout leader, dedicated engineer and active community member who believes in the power of education and innovation. The scholarship aims to support aspiring engineers who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, and a commitment to making a positive impact in the field of engineering and their communities.
