Floyd and Virginia Young Scholarship
Floyd Young was born and raised in Lusk, Wyoming. He attended the University of Wyoming, where he was a varsity wrestler. After receiving his Master’s degree in Physical Education, he was hired to teach and coach wrestling at Northwest College. His coaching career ran from 1982 until 1992, with one national champion, 24 all-Americans, and his 1988 Wrestling Team placing 3rd in the nation. Floyd also taught Physical Education and Algebra at NWC until 2015.
Floyd and his wife, Virginia, raised eight children in the Powell community. All eight took classes at Northwest, as did Virginia, and several grandchildren are also alumni. The family firmly believes higher education leads to a better quality of life. In a fitting combination, the Floyd and Virginia Young Scholarship helps provide quality, affordable education for students athletes at Northwest College.
