Flitner Family Scholarship Endowment
Stan and Mary Flitner have a passion for helping people get started on their path for life. Coming from a good family is often important to success, but there are plenty of people who do not have this opportunity, so they use college to experience being surrounded by good people and to learn from them. The Flitners like the foundation that Northwest College gives students so they can go to work or continue their education – and they hope many will head on to the University of Wyoming. The Flitner’s daughter, Carol Bell, worked at Northwest and she proposed that the family start a NWC scholarship to invest in education for Greybull high school graduates. Stan joined forces on the project and helped persuade extended family members to support local youth this way. Stan noted that growing up in a family ranching business, he did not need to go to college to get a degree, but he needed to go to college to get the phone numbers for the people who earned degrees that would be valuable to him in other ways. These lifelong relationships have helped him succeed and he wants to give more people the opportunity to make these connections.
