Don and Sally Mack education Scholarship Endowment
Don Mack attended NWC (then NWCC) from August 1973 to May 1974. During that academic year, he earned enough credits, by completing and challenging classes and taking CLEP examinations, to complete the equivalent of four semesters in that single year with a 4.00 GPA.
Mack notes he could not have accomplished this without the support and counsel of Dean John Dewitt. Don’s goal was to earn an AA degree in Education in a single year and Dean DeWitt allowed him sufficient leeway to do just that. By completing the NWCC AA program in two semesters, Don was able to save a year of his GI Bill money to complete a Master’s degree after finishing his Bachelor’s degree at UW. ‘I owe a debt of gratitude to Dean Dewitt and to NWC and want to repay it by endowing a scholarship,’ said Mack.
The Macks believe higher education should be available to everyone, including students working toward degree programs or those considering a more career/technical preparation. Whether individuals will be seeking advanced degrees after completing studies at NWC or if NWC will provide their sole experience in higher ed, it’s important for students to have an opportunity to be life-long learners.
