Dick and Jeannette Smith Memorial Scholarship

Dick and Jeannette Smith Memorial Scholarship

The Smith family started the Dick Smith Memorial Scholarship in 1988 after Dick’s early passing. Dick was not a college educated man, but a man who learned by doing. However, he always believed “diplomas open doors that otherwise may remain closed.”
Jeanette, Dick’s wife, had been an associate professor at NWC from the 60s to her retirement in the 80s, and she and Dick had many friends and connections with the college. Many NWC students worked on the Smith farm and ranch.
Dick was passionate about livestock husbandry, so it seemed fitting that his memorial help a livestock judging student with financial need.
“The college has made tremendous contributions to the community over the years, and we are pleased to help keep the college growing and strong. We intend to keep in touch with the livestock program at NWC, and keep the scholarship funded in Dick’s memory.”
