Charles Leslie and Nora E. Bovee Scholarship Endowment
Charles “Les” and Nora Bovee married in 1947, after meeting at a community dance at the old Garland Schoolhouse. Les was born in Powell on the family farm, and Nora had moved to the area from South Dakota to teach in Powell and at the Valley School west of Cody. Through the years after they married, they farmed and square danced and listened to western music. Life didn’t bless them with children, so they blessed the children around them with a second mom and dad, grandpa and grandma. The Bovees invited into their home children who needed a place, or a hug, or a sense of belonging.
In their lifetimes, Les and Nora helped many kids find their way. After living through this country’s hardest economic struggle, its most life-altering wars, and its triumph on the moon, Les and Nora decided the best lifeline is an education.
Nora passed away in 2008 and Les in 2015. Today, they continue to support young people through an estate gift to NWC Foundation which offers students scholarships and a path to the future.
