Bud and Mary Linton Athletic Scholarship

For many years, Bud Linton and former NWC men’s basketball coach and athletic director, Ken Rochlitz, joined in an early morning walk while most of Powell was still sleeping. When they weren’t walking together, they often were playing golf together.
A constant in the friendship was their shared interest in Northwest College.
“We have been around the college ever since we got to Powell in 1960,” said Bud. “It’s a good thing for the north end of Wyoming, especially for Powell and Cody.”
The association with Rochlitz inspired Bud and Mary Linton to establish their first scholarship in 2004.
“The men’s basketball program was our first choice,” Bud said. “We wanted to help Coach Rochlitz recruit and build his program. Our thought was to help provide an incentive to attract top players to the NWC athletic program.”
The Bud and Mary Linton Athletic Scholarship has been funded ever since. The Lintons came to Powell from Billings in 1960 to open Linton’s Supply, forerunner to today’s retail leader, Linton’s Big R Store.
